Work in Progress: heritage exhibition at Torry Battery - we want your stories!
Over the last few wet and miserable weeks, Greyhope Bay Charity team members Rosie and Frances have been meeting with three of our brilliant volunteers - Norman, Linda, and Lynne - to start shaping plans for how we highlight heritage in 2026 and beyond.
Our goals as a group are to develop ideas which will inform, educate, archive, and stimulate conversations around the heritage of the site.
We’ve gathered lots of ideas, some wee and some big, and have been taking inspiration from projects across the city. One that really struck us was the moving storytelling in A Play for Torry, which we all watched recently.
To dip our toes in and get things moving, our first step is to create a light‑touch temporary outdoor exhibition: a couple of panels sharing the story of Torry Battery’s history. Our incredible volunteers will be on hand beside these ‘pop‑up’ panels, chatting with visitors and offering extra insights before packing everything away at the end of each (hopefully sunny!) day. The aim is to have these ready for the busy summer season, when Torry Battery welcomes so many visitors from near and far.
As a group, we’re especially drawn to the stories connected to the Battery - the ones that bring the past to life far more vividly than dates and facts ever could. Over the years, we’ve collected some fantastic tales, from people singing to soldiers to children playing with flares (!!); and we’d love to hear even more.

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
